Kenosha News Opinion: Proposed patent changes would cripple innovation, by Matt Augustine

Our nation’s economy is driven by innovation. Unfortunately, small businesses and inventors that hold patents may soon find themselves the victim of foreign knock-offs if legislation that is working its way through Congress gets passed into law.

HR 9 and S 1137 would create a complicated and costly process that would increase the cost to defend patents to a point that many small businesses and individual inventors would have no hope to defend their innovations. This will undoubtedly lead to knock-offs flooding the market. While the large businesses pushing this legislation have the resources to navigate this new costly process, small businesses and individual inventors will stand no chance.
