Intellectual property rights are so important that our nation’s founders specifically included language in the U.S. Constitution giving power to Congress to protect these rights. Without intellectual property rights, American innovation would cease to exist as inventors would never be able to make a dime off their inventions as huge companies would come in and steal their ideas.
