Innovation Alliance Statement on Senate Judiciary Committee Vote to Approve the Nomination of John Squires to be USPTO Director
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Innovation Alliance Executive Director Brian Pomper today issued the following statement on the Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote to approve the nomination of John Squires to be Director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO):
“The Innovation Alliance congratulates Mr. Squires on his strong vote out of the Judiciary Committee and encourages the Senate to move quickly to approve his nomination. He exhibits a keen understanding of the critical role the patent system plays in the U.S. economy and recognizes the need for legislation to strengthen the system. We agree wholeheartedly with his testimony: ‘We want inventors from every conceivable walk to bring their inventive raw materials to our American patent factory, where we’ll help them hone and hew strong proprietary rights that are the building blocks of dreams, where they are rewarded, and society advances just as the Constitution intended.’”
We look forward to working with Mr. Squires on changes needed to improve our patent system and ensure it continues to serve as a driving force for our economy, supporting American innovation, job creation and global competitiveness.”
