Law360: Patent Suits Fall, IPRs Spike At Start Of 2017, by Ryan Davis

Fewer patent lawsuits were filed in the first three months of 2017 than in any quarter since 2011, while the number of inter partes review petitions challenging patents reached a record high, according to a report released Thursday by legal analytics firm Lex Machina.
A total of 938 new patent infringement complaints were filed in district courts in the first quarter of the year, the fewest since 921 were filed in the third quarter of 2011, according to the data compiled by Lex Machina, a unit of LexisNexis.
